Privacy (Offline-first)
Last updated: 25 Jul 2026
Categories of processed data
CaptainCalc operates offline-first by default. Entered maritime data (voyage logs, stability cases, draft surveys, tank/ROB data, checklists, etc.) is kept on the device.
Data types that may be processed within the app include:
- User inputs: Values manually entered into calculation screens and user notes.
- Location data (optional): Used only for features that require location; most of the app works without permission.
- Technical diagnostic data (by user request): For debugging purposes, the user may choose to share app logs / screenshots. The sharing control remains with the user.
- Purchase/subscription metadata (platform level): Subscription and payment flows are subject to the rules of the purchasing platform (Google Play / App Store).
- Captains Lounge community data (optional): If you use Captains Lounge, your display name, Lounge messages, reports, blocks, community-rules acceptance, app language/version context, and privacy-limited installation hash are sent to the CaptainCalc backend so we can operate the community, enforce rate limits, prevent abuse, support moderation, and respond to deletion requests. Lounge messages are visible to other Lounge users unless removed or hidden by moderation; do not post confidential vessel, cargo, route, port, contract, security, or personal information.
Third-party services
- Payment/subscription: Payment/subscription operations are processed through Google Play / App Store; card/payment details are never seen or stored by CaptainCalc.
- Advertising: The free tier may show ads through Yandex Ads. Yandex may process the advertising identifier, device/app context, ad delivery events, fraud-prevention signals, and frequency information according to applicable law and your device choices.
- Open source components: License and attribution information for third-party components used by the app is listed on the Licenses page.
Analytics and diagnostics: Firebase Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics, and Yandex AppMetrica may process privacy-limited app usage, device, performance, crash, and installation identifiers when the corresponding in-app analytics/crash controls are enabled. These controls can be turned off in Settings. Vessel, voyage, route, coordinate, cargo, tank, stability, and calculation payloads are not sent to these analytics services.
Premium cloud backup (optional)
After explicit opt-in, Premium users can upload a structured .ccbak backup body to a private Cloudflare R2 bucket. Transfers and storage are encrypted in transit and at rest. This is not zero-knowledge storage: the CaptainCalc backend can technically access the backup body when operating the service.
We process checksum, size, integrity/status, app/schema version, and privacy-limited account metadata. The service keeps up to 10 restore points of at most 90 MiB each. After consent, automatic backup defaults to daily and Wi-Fi only. Backups remain available for retrieval for up to 30 days after Premium ends, then are deleted under the retention process.
Exported files, attachments, and generated pdfPath references are excluded. This release provides snapshot backup/restore and no live sync. Deleting backups removes cloud snapshots but keeps the account; delete account removes the Firebase identity, cloud backups, and Captains Lounge account data. Local device-only records must be removed on the device.
The same signed-in Google account can restore an eligible backup on a replacement device. Cloud recovery does not transfer a subscription and deleting an account does not cancel a Google Play subscription; manage billing separately in Google Play.
Crash reporting (optional)
If the "Crash Reporting" option is enabled in the app, Firebase Crashlytics may be used to improve stability.
In the event of a crash/ANR, Crashlytics may collect diagnostic data such as stack traces, relevant app state, device metadata, and a random installation ID (Crashlytics installation UUID). If this feature is disabled, no reports are sent.
The automatic transmission of personal content (your records, calculation inputs) is not targeted; logs are also prepared with masking/sanitization as much as possible. When turned off, all unsent reports are deleted from the device.
Retention and deletion
- Data on the device: Stored on the device by default. It can be removed via in-app deletion actions and/or uninstalling the app.
- Shared logs/screenshots: If a user sends logs/screenshots via email for support, they are processed solely to resolve the issue and deleted after a reasonable period (e.g., 90 days).
Note: If operating system cloud backup is enabled on your phone, some app data may be included in the OS backup mechanism. This control depends on your device/account settings.
Children's privacy
CaptainCalc is not intended for children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under the age of 13.
Security
Data is kept on the device and protected by the operating system's security mechanisms (app sandbox, access permissions, etc.). Automatic data sharing over the internet is not mandatory.

License scope
The Software is not sold; it is licensed to you as a non‑exclusive, non‑transferable, limited right of use, subject to these terms. The license is personal.
- Personal entitlement: The entitlement belongs to the purchasing Google Play account. Eligible cloud backups can be restored on a replacement device after signing in with the same Google account.
- Restrictions: no copying/redistribution, renting/selling, reverse engineering (decompile/disassemble), attempts to access source code, modification/derivatives, bypassing license verification.
- Third‑party: The App may include open‑source components and NAIF kernel data. Licenses/attributions are listed on the Licenses page.
No warranty & limitation of liability
Provided “as is” without a guarantee of uninterrupted or error‑free operation. No liability for indirect/consequential damages; total liability is limited to subscription fees paid for the relevant period.
Subscription Terms
Model
Plans, durations, and pricing are shown in-app. Features are available while the subscription is active.
Auto-renewal
Subscriptions may auto‑renew until canceled. Renewal/billing is governed by the purchase platform (App Store / Google Play).
Cancellation
Cancel via the platform’s subscription management UI. Cancellation typically takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
- Device changes: Sign in with the same purchasing Google account to recover eligible Premium access and cloud backups. Cloud recovery does not transfer or cancel Play billing.
- Refunds are handled under the purchase platform’s refund policies.
- Abuse (sharing, bypass attempts, fraud) may result in suspension or termination.
