Laytime

Laytime is the time allowed under a voyage charter for loading or discharging cargo. Once valid NOR is tendered and laytime starts, excess time can trigger demurrage while early completion may earn despatch.

Masters and agents track laytime through statements of facts, weather interruptions, SHINC/WWD wording and charter-party exceptions. See the full laytime, demurrage and despatch guide for worked examples.
